How a cotton blanket changes music

So where I live, I am unable to play the piano loud at night, so I have adjusted by making my own system to mute the instrument….or else someone starts banging a broom stick on their ceiling. Basically I take a thin cotton blanket and rest it between the hammers and the strings.  This somehow makes the piano sound like a rhodes electric piano while also makes it much softer.  The touch changes too, making me work for each note and really commit.  Recently I have noticed that when I muffle the piano, the tunes I write are just different, probably just cause I am playing with a different sound….inspiration coming from the most unusual places!
