New Single, “Armando’s Rhumba,” out on July 22 at our Bandcamp Store and all music platforms.
Our version of the Chick Corea song “Armando’s Rhumba” features drummer Jerome Jennings with yours truly. We didn’t plan on recording it as a duet, but we had some extra time in the afternoon at the studio. We had time to experiment and try out different ideas. I actually wanted to move around microphones and move the drums right next to the piano but our recording engineer gave me a look like “really?” So we kept our spots in the studio, threw a new intro on the tune, and did our thing…..wanted it to feel like a conversation between two good friends. You’ll be able to check out it from July 22 onward in our bandcamp store and everywhere you find music.
Here’s the cover for the new trio album coming out July 18 with bassist Hilliard Greene and drummer Jerome Jennings (Foto by Shervin Lainez). Not sure what I am doing with my tie here, but it works for the cover!
Check out YouTube video, Armando’s Rhumba (Chick Corea). This is a duo with drummer Jerome Jennings and yours truly. This is a track from the upcoming album, “The World of Steve Hudson,” coming out July 18. Enjoy!! S
Here is a shot of myself with Hilliard Greene, bassist extraordinaire, looking over some music that will be on the trio album that’s coming out July 18th. Can’t wait for to hear it!
(Feb/2022) “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Working it out on solo piano. Enjoy! Music for the album coming out later this year.
Harmony…….so powerful. This is something I love getting into with Trace the Sun.
I remember years back a friend asked me to arrange a few Beatles song for his wedding for flute. violin, and piano. So like anyone, I started the project just by listening to the music. Rather listening as a fan (yeah, I love the Beatles), I put on my musician hat and really listened. The harmonies from the vocals were just so powerful. Dug in a bit more. There is this book out there that has the sheet music of all the Beatles’ music. I borrowed a copy from another friend and checked it out. I was expecting some exotic harmonies, something you would find in a graduate music class, something slick, innovative, something new. Do you know what I found? Triads. Whether they were voiced close together or spaced out…..that was a lesson.
Simple is more, and a triad is a beautiful thing. Sometimes, 3 really is the magic number.
Getting the train to get home after a full day in the studio recording the trio album with Hill Greene on bass and Jerome Jennings on drums. Full day….whole lot of adventures! Stay tuned for the sounds coming your way soon in 2022!!
This video of Duke Ellington, the great pianist, composer, bandleader, has so many pearls of wisdom and makes you nod your head and smile. Whether Duke is talking about what he loves, how categorizing music falls short, race relations, or his dreams for the future….this video shines a light on it all!
[Feb. 2022]Just finished recording a trio album in Brooklyn with Jerome Jennings on drums and Hilliard Greene on bass. We played through many standards and music from the American Songbook, songs like…. If I were a Bell, Take the A Train, Skippy, a nice tune by Chick Corea called Armando’s Rumba, and then we explored a couple originals. Felt like we were on a spaceship, with each tune being it’s own planet. Can’t wait for you all to hear the music!
Hey Everyone! Happy to say that I will be jumping back into the studio in the next couple weeks to record some music for trio (piano, bass, drums). This is a jazz project, and we’ll be doing some standards and a couple originals. Stay tuned for so so much more. Back soon, hugs, S
Just got word that Music Connection Magazine listed Trace the Sun on their “2021 Top Artist List.”
Nice words from the online magazine, Music Connection about the EP from Trace The Sun.....
"With no intent to overpower the listener, this trio knocks it out of the park with duets that examine the dimensions of love relationships. Simply great vocal chemistry. The easy-breezy “Be The One” revels in the bliss of a couple in love. The exceptional chord progression of “Chestnut Street” helps to express the qualms and concerns that can haunt a pair of lovers whose once-eternal bond has somehow weakened. Trace The Sun might want to create some sort of theatrical piece."
Making Music With The Redline Trio
Ahhhhhhhh….having a blast playing music with the redline trio with guest Brad Turner and myself, with shows in Vancouver, Victoria, and Calgary. Thank you to all the music lovers out there for your positive spirit and enthusiasm at the shows. Real music for real people in the real world….a beautiful thing. We recorded some new music in the studio out here and I’ll keep you updated on when it will be released. Back to NYC in a few days.
